All female housekeepers attached to parliament have been told to wear sarees when reporting for and leaving duty, reliable sources said.

The order has been made after they have reportedly been subjected to sexual and other harassment by their male superiors, and an investigation is in progress by a committee.

During duty hours, female housekeepers have been allowed to be in their uniform.

However, some of them have ignored the order.

The assistant housekeeper in charge has been suspended over the accusations.

Secretary General of parliament Kushani Rohanadeera has instructed the three-member committee to investigate impartially and hand over a report.
