The group that has been accepted back to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has snatched the organizing of the party’s 72nd anniversary celebration from general secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, ‘Anidda’ newspaper reports.
Jayasekara had planned to hold the event in Kurunegala on 02 September, but the group led by Mahinda Amaraweera has now arranged for a celebration at Monarch Imperial Hotel in Sri Jayewardenepura.
The latter has obtained approval from party chief Maithripala Sirisena, with funds likely to come mostly from persons with links to the government.
Amaraweera and others have had their suspension removed by the party, but a disciplinary inquiry against them has not been withdrawn.
