Colombo additional magistrate Manjula Ratnayake has ordered the Excise Department to seek advice from the attorney
general on probable action against the police for allegedly having obstructed excise officers on a drug raid.
The court issued the order after considering a report filed by the Excise Department claiming that police officers obstructed their duty in Bambalapitiya on 06 August.
It said they received information that drug trafficking was taking place near a hotel in the area, and a group of officers sent to the location.
When the suspects noticed their approach, they attempted to escape in a luxury car.
Responding excise officers fired shots at the car to prevent their escape.
After the shooting, Bambalapitiya police arrested four excise officers and produced them in court, who were subsequently released on bail.
