Yet another attempt by the Navy has been thwarted as it tried to take over a private land to build a new checkpoint in Jaffna.

On 28 July, survey officers had gone to the place for the fifth time at Vettrilai in Kattaikadu to demarcate part of the plot owned by a Tamil.

In the face opposition by the landowner, supported by area people and Tamil politicians Selvaraja Gajendran and M.A. Sumanthiran, the work had been abandoned.

The landowner, in a letter to the Survey Department, has refused to grant part of his land to the Navy.
