A one-day Hartal has taken place in the north to call for international involvement in the excavations in a site claimed to be the latest mass grave in a war-torn area.

Expertise and supervision by international experts are required at the Kokkutuduvai gravesite, they said.

Protestors also denounced a Sinhala Buddhist invasion of Tamil land and the military’s involvement in civilian affairs and called for justice for their missing relatives.

Relatives of missing persons in the north and the east led the demonstration that started with a march at Mullaitivu yesterday (28).

Participants, including Tamil politicians, walked to the district secretariat and held a protest there.

Shops and workplaces remained shut in all five districts in the north during the day in support of the hartal.
