The drivers' license printing activities carried out by the Sri Lanka Army at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Werahera branch will be taken over by the Department from September 01, DMT Commissioner General Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe said.

He said the printing process of the Sri Lanka drivers' licenses was taken over by the Sri Lanka Army on January 01, 2021, through a special security system.

As one way of implementing the concept of delivering an efficient service to the people through public service, the Cabinet decided on July 1, 2020, to transfer the printing process to the Sri Lanka Army.

Mr. Weerasinghe said that the drivers' license printing department operated under the control of the Army for several years according to an agreement, and that the agreement will be reviewed.

Officers of the DMT are currently receiving training on the affairs of the department, and will be assigned to work on the printing process of driving licenses.
