Johann Wijesinghe, a brother and a wonderful human being who gave new meaning to the words ‘friend’ and ‘friendship,’ passed away this morning.
Gentle though he was to one and all including random strangers who came to him for help or who he felt needed his help, Johann was a tenacious fighter, best exemplified in the way he dealt with his illness.
Through it all, his wife Kalpana stood by him, fought with him and gave him all the strength that love and companionship can give in such situations. They were both extraordinary throughout the most trying of times.
Our mutual friend Prof Arjuna and all other medical professionals were remarkable soldiers in this most terrible of battles and I am immensely grateful for all they did to give ease of whatever kind possible to my dear friend Johann, a legend whose passing leaves an indescribable emptiness.
Go well Johann, rest in peace until we meet again in kinder circumstances.
