The Navy has been prevented from taking over a private land in Jaffna to build a new checkpoint, reports from the north said.
Survey department officers had arrived at the location at Kattaikadu in Vadamarachchi East on 25 July to survey the land.
The landowner who had previously objected in writing to release the land, supported by Tamil MPs Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam and Selvaraja Gajendran, prevented their attempt.
