The National People's Power (NPP) has demanded the government immediately withdraw the IMF conditions that make slaves out of the working people.

Its MP Vijitha Herath, speaking to the media yesterday (16), said the rights of the working people were being curtailed at the IMF’s instigation.

The government is laying its hands on the superannuation funds through a so-called debt optimization, while a new labour act plans to annual 13 acts that had guaranteed their rights to an extent, he charged.

In an economically-bankrupt country, rights of the working class and the economically-downtrodden should be protected, but that is not happening in Sri Lanka, said Herath.

Also speaking here, party MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said every attempt should be made to defeat this highly dangerous labour law amendment that benefits employers and violates the rights of workers.
