As leader of the United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to form a high post committee to create future leaders in the party.
He has taken the decision in view of his busy schedule as the head of state that prevents him from much involvement in affairs of the UNP and also with the intention of creating a second rung of leaders for the party.
The party chief explained these to party seniors last week.
A high post committee with powers enables real leaders to demonstrate their abilities and come up the party ladder, while those without such abilities will have to retreat, he said.
The proposal will be submitted to a party convention that takes place in mid-August.
