The leader of the National People's Power (NPP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake queried in parliament today (06) how a person could get imprisoned for having robbed eight coconuts, if the country’s laws are weak and powerless.

The existing laws apply to the small fry only, while the big fish evades them, he said.

Strong politics is needed to overcome this roguish and corrupt ring, the MP said, noting that it was foolish to say the laws alone are sufficient to act against it.

A corrupt person never punishes another corrupt person, he added.
