A 35-year-old woman had fallen unconscious and died following surgery at Colombo’s National Eye Hospital.
Himali Priyadarshani Weerasinghe, a mother of two from Kosgoda, had previously undergone a lens implant surgery there.
Following an allergic reaction, she got admitted to the hospital for a surgery on medical advice on July 04.
She underwent surgery on the following day, but did not regain consciousness, said her relatives, who blame the anesthetic drug given to her for her death.
Health sector trade unionist Ravi Kumudesh questioned if the anesthetic drug caused her death, and said there was a previous instance too, of the death of a woman under anesthesia at the same hospital.
