Labour minister Manusha Nanayakkara has given a hearing to Sihala Ravaya that stormed his ministry unannounced with a demand for the digitalization of the foreign employment sector.

He interrupted a discussion already underway and spoke with Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratana Thera and other activists of the group.

The prelate called for a speedy digitalization of the sector.

In response, Nanayakkara said steps were being taken towards that direction.

Ministry secretary R.P.A. Wimalaweera said 99 per cent of issues in the sector could be resolved easily through digitalization.

The required approval would be obtained within two weeks and digitalization could begin by January next year, he said.

Sihala Ravaya also called for a grading of the foreign employment agencies, which was accepted by the minister.
