Ravi Karunanayake has the same vision, programme and targets of president Ranil Wickremesinghe and both are futuristic, global and far-seeing leaders, said university students.
This has been stressed by Heshan Sampath Tilekeratne, Antony Agash Vaas and Geeth Tharuka Munasinghe of the Sri Lanka Technology University, Erandi Anuradha Subasinghe and Akila Shehari Dulanjalee of Sri Lanka Institute of Accountancy, Achitha Madura Samarasinghe, Samith Isuranga, Lumbini Pramodya, Nilanthi Manel and Hemantha Thusitha Kumara of Sri Jayewardenepura University.
They said, “The media reported that during his visit to the UK, president Ranil Wickremesinghe met Commonwealth secretary-general Patricia Scotland and discussed digitalization efforts in the region. Also, he exchanged views on government strategy to face climate changes and how the Commonwealth could support the efforts.
This is very positive. We notice that Ravi Karunanayake, the best finance minister of Asia, has been paying attention and discussing those same matters.
The best example is his long-standing proposal to digitalize the economy. Evidently, just like the president, Ravi Karunanayake is a mature, global political leader who values modernization.
It was Ravi Karunanayake who introduced a countrywide natural disaster insurance coverage for the first time in the whole of South Asia through his budget proposals of 2015-16. He made the proposal with the blessing of the then prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He also insured all schoolchildren through Suraksha and improved IT knowledge of teachers and advanced level students by providing them with tabs.
All these make it clear that Ravi Karunanayake has the same vision, programme and targets of president Ranil Wickremesinghe and both are futuristic, global and far-seeing leaders.”
