Cabinet approval will be sought for a trial project on cannabis cultivation, said state minister Dilum Amunugama.
The next course of action will be decided on the success of this project, he said.
He said local investors who have submitted project reports on cannabis cultivation are currently discussing matters as well.
Meanwhile, president Ranil Wickremesinghe, as the finance minister, has sought cabinet approval to take follow-up action on recommendations by an expert committee on cannabis production for export only.
