Thirty-six civilians, who had been murdered in 1985 in a mid-sea attack off Delft Island in Jaffna blamed on the Navy, have been remembered.

The 38th remembrance took place on May 15 at Kumudini memorial, named after the boat they had been travelling in when they were killed.

They were also remembered at church and kovil events.

A group of 72 men, women and children boarded the vessel to travel to Jaffna town to buy their essentials.

But, they were attacked while on their way by an armed group, believed to be from the Navy, killing 36 of them and causing serious injuries to 20 others.
