The Customs Department has uncovered a racket at Colombo Port in the guise of re-exportation that adversely affects Sri Lanka’s name.

Racketeers are abusing the re-exportation facility by faking documents to show an item different from the item imported for re-exportation.

The Customs intelligence unit is investigating four such containers, although two of them have already been shipped.

The probe has been hampered due to some of the racketeers being Indian nationals.

In view of the racket, certain countries are taking precautions when checking the shipments re-exported from Sri Lanka.
