A long drawn-out cabinet reshuffle has now been postponed indefinitely to the deep disappointment of several SLPP MPs, said political sources.
They had much hopes of getting ministerial positions which were said to be offered to them with speculation rife on the dates of appointment.
Several months ago, the SLPP sent a list of its ministerial hopefuls to president Ranil Wickremesinghe.
According to Presidential Secretariat sources, there will be no change in the cabinet until a presidential election takes place.
Birth of new proverbial saying
This comical scenario has given birth to a new proverbial saying in the political circles to say about something that never happens – “Like Ranil’s cabinet reshuffle.”
A recent social media post detailed how the president kept putting off the cabinet reshuffle, and what he will say in the future, with the last given as ‘Ranil is ready for cabinet reshuffle after the world ends.’
