Patali Champika Ranawaka was today (23) elected uncontested as chairman of the newly-established sectoral oversight committee on state finance strategy (ways and means).
This committee has the powers to supervise and review a sizeable part of the Finance Ministry’s subjects.
They include the Departments of Inland Revenue, Customs, Excise and other revenue-earning institutions.
It will also analyze taxes and tariffs and report to parliament on new ideas and review the progress.
Supervising trade agreements with other countries as well as state expenses on social welfare and the process relating to disaster management are also included in its responsibilities.
