SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva alleges a gang of thieves were opposed to his being appointed to chair the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) in order for them to swindle public money again.
In a facebook post, he stresses that he will stand strongly to defeat these thieves.
Also an economist, de Silva says he has all the qualifications to serve as the COPF chairman, and expects the opposition led by Sajith Premadasa to rise up against the injustice done to him.
Having a deep understanding about the COPF’s importance, he says, he has never approved a proposal without any analytical backing in order to ensure maximum dividends to taxpayers’ money in a bankrupt country.
Mayantha appointed COPF chairman
De Silva’s allegation came after the committee on selection yesterday (23) appointed SJB MP Mayantha Dissanayake as the COPF chairman.
Following the passing of the 22nd amendment to the constitution, de Silva had become the COPF chairman, but ruling MPs had constantly charged him of delaying government acts.
With the prorogation of parliament, he lost the position.
