The political office of the faction led by Anura Yapa and Nimal Lanza was opened last Thursday.

Former JVP politician Siripala Amarasinghe and Sugeeswara Bandara were present at the opening.

Amarasinghe was previously in charge of Basil’s election mechanism. Bandara is still busy as the private secretary to former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Lanza opened the office at a spacious house, spanning about 7,000 square feet, at Lake Drive in Rajagiriya, which formerly housed the Liberal Party office.

No MP was present at the opening. Later in the day, Lanza, Yapa and Sudarshani paid visits.

Present at the opening were more than 100 district organizers. Bandara gave them a speech to up their morale, while Amarasinghe explained the future plans.

On the same evening, at a meeting of the SLPP at Nelum Mawatha, Sarana Gunawardena and Indika Anuruddha took Lanza to task for opening the office.

The matter was raised again on 21 July by MP Nipuna Ranawaka when he paid a visit to Gotabaya, also an uncle of his.

It was Amarasinghe who promoted Nipuna at the last general election to help him defeat Dullas and Kanchana to top the preferential votes list. Bandara too, was part of that campaign.

Nipuna told his uncle that Namal Aiya was worried by Amarasinghe and Bandara for having openly campaigned against them.

However, Gotabaya did not give him a direct answer.
