This is a matter more close to arts than politics. Artistes being seen in the political platform and elsewhere, it is not without a political concern either.

It happened more than a week ago. But, no one knows about it yet.

An awareness programme on organic cultivation took place at Doramadalawa in Anuradhapura.

It was organized by the Lion’s Club of Gampaha. It took a team of artistes and literary figures from Colombo as resource persons.

Among them was Sri Lanka’s foremost poet, a product of the south. There’s no harm in saying he is the foremost songwriter as well. He is also a talented orator who can keep his audience for hours.

There was also a musician, who addresses the people with the mandolin and guitar. There were five in all.

After the programme ended, they found a spot to make the occasion more interesting. It was the bathing place at Rambewa Wewa. The time was around dusk.

The setting sun painted an eye-catching scenery, made all the more beautiful by several bathing ladies. After a tiring day, the group from Colombo satisfied their thirst with
some spirits and joined the ladies in the bath, who however hastened back home.

In their inebriated state, the cold water played quite an effect on the men’s bodies and time passed very quickly.

Suddenly, there was a cry and movement in the water. Organist Nilantha who can swim too, jumped in and rescued one by one. Had he not been there, Rambewa Wewa could have become a watery grave for two well-known artists and three others. Everybody thanked Nilantha profusely and the party ended there.

A little bit more about Nilantha. You may have seen the dark and handsome youth in YouTube, who sings Vijaya Kumaratunga’s “Ganga Addara Pem Kendawu Rasa Dehene” by imitating the voices of Amaradeva and several other singers. That’s him.

Thank you Nilantha for your heroics.
