The Constitutional Council is likely to have a vote on the president’s recommendation to grant a six-month service extension to attorney general Sanjay Rajaratnam, said opposition sources.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has already voiced its objections to giving him an extension.

The CC is due to meet on 18 June to decide on the matter, after ending its previous meeting a week earlier inconclusively.

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, who joined it via Zoom, said he needed to be present in person to discuss it further.

The attorney general is due to complete his tenure on 30 June.
