The first charter flight by FlyOne Airlines from Moldovan capital Kishinev arrived at Mattala Rajapaksa Airport on 27 December.

A majority of the 148 on board were from Ukraine, former ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga said in a statement.

FlyOne and SkyUP are operating six direct flights a week from Moldova, Estonia, Lituania, Latvia and Poland.

More than 16,000 tourists from those countries will arrive during the winter season, earning Rs. 8,250 million in foreign exchange for the country, he said.

Tropical Aviation Services will be the local agent for FlyOne.
