People do not expect devolution of powers at this moment, with their hopes strongly on economic stabilization and strengthening of democracy, said SLPP general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam.

He told journalists today (14) that he wished the president set aside plans for power devolution and other matters and directly got involved in tackling the main concern of uplifting the economy.

Implementing the 13th amendment to the constitution is not sensible as the country is yet to recover from bankruptcy, he said.

When a country is at a low ebb, outside forces and various NGOs attempt to destabilize the country to gain petty advantages, he went onto say.
