Police arrested journalist Tharindu Uduwaragedara during a protest staged in Colombo today (28) by postal trade unions against an increase in the bank interest rates.

Water cannons and teargas were fired to disperse the protestors at Wanathamulla in Borella.

Meanwhile, arrested former IUSF convener Wasantha Mudalige has been released on a Rs. 100,000 surety by Colombo chief magistrate prasanna Alwis.

He was produced before courts today in connection with a warrant for his arrest after failing to appear for another court hearing.

Meanwhile, a court injunction has been issued against a group including Duminda Nagamuwa against staging protests or processions in several locations in Colombo.
