Senior DIGs have renewed the cold war amongst them for the position of IGP, police sources said.
The extension given to incumbent C.D. Wickramaratne expires on June 26.
Many DIGs, even some down the line of seniority, are reportedly attempting to get close to political leaders to garner their support in their bid for the top position.
The Constitutional Council recommends a suitable senior DIG from among a list of nominees sent by the president to be the police chief.
The CC is yet to receive a list of nominees, said a spokesman for the commission.
A government spokesman told lankadeepa.lk that a nominee would be made known to the CC soon.
