Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met with U.S. ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung today (21) to discuss the current political situation in the country.

The meeting which took place at the former PM's residence at 5th Lane, Colombo also focused on the current economic crisis as well as the need for a strong political opposition to safeguard democracy in the country.

The U.S. Ambassador in a Twitter message said that the discussions centred on how the United States and Sri Lanka could work together to find sustainable solutions to Sri Lanka's immediate economic challenges.

“A vibrant political opposition is vital in any healthy democracy. Thank you @RW_UNP for meeting with me today to discuss ways the U.S. and Sri Lanka can work together to find sustainable solutions to today’s urgent economic challenges,” the Ambassador’s tweet said.
