Samantha Kumara Gamage first came to be known as a character actor.
But, he has also been acclaimed as a director and a script writer in both stage drama and tele drama fields.
He started his career during his school days.
Samantha wrote and directed a stage play that won the award for the best stage play at the Sri Lanka school drama festival in 1996.
So far, he has written 10 scripts. For the tele drama ‘Giridevi’, he won the award for the best script writer.
‘Sheysha’, written by him and directed by Isuru Gunatilake, won the award for the best dance film at the 'Remember the Future' World Film Festival in Cannes.
Presently, two tele dramas written by him are shown on television – ‘Bambarek Evith’ directed by Charith Abeysinghe and ‘Viyali’ by Chandana Irugalbandara.
