Sri Lanka’s Gayanthika Abeyratne won the women’s 800 metres event at the 10th Kinami Michitaka Memorial Athletics Meet in Japan yesterday (07).
Abeyratne clocked a winning time of two minutes 04.26 seconds.
In this tournament organized by IAAF, the women's 800 m event was held in three stages and Abeyratne came first by recording the best time.
She won the event also at the 33rd Shizuoka International Invitational Athletic Meet returning a time of two minutes 04.35 secs.
Earlier, Aruna Darshana recorded his personal best in the men’s 400 metres at Osaka.
Darshana clocked 45.49 seconds to be placed second behind Japan’s Yuki Joseph who had a timing of 45.39 secs.
The 24-year-old’s previous best was 45.78 secs.
