The TNPF has written to SJB presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa, laying down a condition to reconsider its decision to boycott the election and to extend support to him.
Responding to Premadasa’s request for support from its leader Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam a week earlier, party secretary Selvaraja Gajendran wrote the letter on 28 August.
It wants Premadasa to include a clause in his policy manifesto that the country could be built only by abolishing the unitary status and introducing a federal constitution to rally all the communities.
The TNPF has been campaigning for around three months amongst the Tamil community for a boycott of the election.
This campaign in the north and the east has been facing various disruptions by the police.
