The fire brigade has successfully doused the fire that had erupted at the Supreme Court Complex in Colombo yesterday (15). 
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Government Analyst Department have been tasked with further investigations with the CID deploying three special teams to investigate the fire.


Police Media Spokesman Ajith Rohana said that several teams comprising experts from various fields will be deployed to assist the investigation.

Accordingly, the views of the Government Analyst, electrical engineers and crime scene investigation officers will be sought, he said, adding that they will look into the possibility of sabotage in the course of the investigation.

 Speculation was rife on social media that many files at the Supreme Court Complex have been damaged due to the fire.
 
 
 
However, the Justice Ministry secretary, M.P.K. Mayadunna refuted these claims immediately and said that neither the registry nor any documents have been damaged by the fire.
 
He said that the fire had erupted on the ground floor of a section of the Supreme Court Complex that was reserved for storage.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa had visited the Hulftsdorp Supreme Court Complex last night (15) to inspect the damage caused by the fire.

Premadasa thanked all parties, including the Fire Brigade, for successfully dousing the fire and stressed the need for an immediate inquiry into the incident.
