Election commission chairman Saman Sri Ratnayake has requested the attorney general in writing for advice as to which faction of the SLFP he should officially recognize, according to lankadeepa.lk.
Once the AG gives his advice, that would be discussed by the commission for future action, he said.
The SLFP is presently divided into three camps led by Maithripala Sirisena, Nimal Siripala de Silva and Dayasiri Jayasekara.
The Sirisena faction is having a presidential candidate in Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa.
De Silva supports Ranil Wickremesinghe, while Sajith Premadasa has the support of Jayasekara.
