Steps have been taken to temporarily shut down the activities of the Department of Government Printing and send all its employees home. The Department of Government
Printing borders the Welikada Prison where an inmate had tested positive for Covid-19.
The husband of the Government Printer is a high ranking official of the prison and as such, she and her family members reside in an official quarters located inside the prison.
The Director General of the Government Information Department, Nalaka Kaluwewa, said that PCR tests are being carried out on all contacts of the Covid-19 patient reported from the prison including inmates and prison officials adding that a quarantine process is also in place.
However, a trade union chief noted that the Government Printer is still on duty but the employees are terrified as no PCR tests were carried out.
