A retired military officer who is now actively involved with the JVP has countered misinformation against the party with regard to how it acted during its political ban in the 1971 and 1988-89 periods.
Rear Admiral Fred Seneviratne also responded to a facebook post by political activist Victor Ivan.
Even his mother has been so deceived into believing the propagandizing against the JVP that she had asked him if he was not ashamed to work with the party, he said.
Addressing a meeting of retired military officers in Galle district yesterday (19), Seneviratne said the JVP was rectifying its past mistakes and as a partner of the NPP was the only party honestly committed to building the country.
Seneviratne also said the country could be revived after a change in the present political culture and by a corrupt-free, populist NPP only.
Seneviratne urged all to rally round the NPP to save the country from beggary it has fallen into because of successive rulers.
