The Inland Revenue and Police departments have formulated a joint plan to levy taxes on financial and other assets of criminals who have amassed money from extortion, drug trafficking and other underworld activities, said highly placed sources.
At the same time, legal action against them will continue.
Taxes will be levied as per details contained in complaints against them and information available with the crime detection and drug prevention divisions of the police.
So far, information has been collected on 8,000 racketeers, who will be the first to be levied taxes.
