Six fisheries associations in the northern province are seeking the mediation of Indian premier Narendra Modi to prevent poaching in northern waters by Indian fishermen.
These associations handed over a petition addressed to Modi in this regard to the Indian consulate in Jaffna on June 13.
Fisheries leader Annalingam Annarasa told the media that sea leeches farms being run by a Chinese company are aggravating their plight.
