The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) has proposed the formation of a short-term, dual-powered administration on a common agenda to face the arising socioeconomic and political issues.

Speaking to the media yesterday (12), its leader Kumar Gunaratnam invited all parties opposed to the oppressive and repressive regime of Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Rajapaksas to set aside their differences and join forces under his proposal.

Without hoping for a never-happening election, let us gain victories for the people under a common programme, he urged.

Within a period of six months, a new constitution should be introduced to abolish the executive presidency, through which the present political culture could be reformed.

The collective power of the people that expelled the executive president a year ago should be mobilized as a permanent factor in the country’s politics, said the FSP leader.

The present regime is only strengthening the long-standing economic model that took the country to ruin, said Gunaratnam, adding that a system that had failed for 75 years cannot bring successful results.
