The Colombo district court has extended until May 24 an injunction that prevents political vlogger Darshana Handungoda from uploading any videos defamatory of two officials of the Attorney General’s Department.
Judge Purnima Paranagama today (10) took up a petition against Handungoda filed by an additional solicitor general and a state counsel.
The petitioners allege that Handungoda has made defamatory remarks, via his YouTube channel ‘SL Deshiya’, against them with regard to the X-Press Pearl maritime matter.
They seek compensation of Rs. one billion and Rs. 500 million respectively.
A team of lawyers led by Maithri Gunaratne appeared for Handungoda free of charge.
