Social media activist Piyath Nikeshala and former deputy mayor of Kaduwela Chandika Abeyratne have been arrested after the former was assaulted and his vehicle damaged at Koswatte in Talangama yesterday (10), police said.
Both remain hospitalized under police protection.
Nikeshala, injured in the attack, was admitted to Talangama Hospital and later transferred to Colombo National Hospital.
Abeyratne was taken into custody at Mulleriyawa hospital.
Nikeshala has videoed the incident himself with his mobile phone.
A group led by the politician had assaulted the social media activist for having posted a previous video of him, according to a complaint lodged with the police.
The video shows how Abeyratne and several others were pushed into Beira Lake by protestors in May last year.
