Local universities yesterday (02) introduced a number of their innovations under a research commercialization programme.
This programme falls under the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) project funded by the World Bank and initiated four years ago.
For this purpose, each university has its own university business linkage cell to facilitate the translation of university research into new products and services for public use and benefit.
Under the programme, 15 global patent licenses have been obtained so far, in addition to around 50 innovations in agriculture, medical and beauty culture, IT, electronics and technical fields having entered the commercial market.
The occasion was attended by state minister of higher education Suresh Raghavan, UGC chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga and World Bank resident representative Chiyo Kanda among others.
