The Supreme Lanka Council, a SLPP breakaway group, held its May Day rally at Hyde Park in Colombo under the theme of opposing the rule that sells the country.

Its national organizer Vasudeva Nanayakkara, chairman Wimal Weerawansa, deputy chairman Udaya Gammanpila and Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera addressed the event.

Their speeches called for rallying the working people against outside interferences, sale of state assets, repression of the public and curtailment of worker welfare.

Also in attendance were MP Gevindu Kumaratunga, Dew Gunasekara, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Mohammed Muzammil, Nimal Piyatissa and Gamini Waleboda.
