A 3,500-strong police force is providing protection to rallies organized today (01) by political parties and trade unions to mark International Workers’ Day.

The May Day rally of the SLPP takes place at Campbell Park in Borella, led by its leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The SJB’s May Day parade themed ‘struggle at the workplace for the victory of the motherland’ starts near P.D. Sirisena grounds at Maligawatte.

Its rally will be held at E.A. Gunasinghe grounds in Borella.

The NPP will mark the day with a rally in front of Viharamaha Devi Park in Colombo.

The UNP’s May Day rally will be held at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The FSP will commence its parade at Delkanda Junction which will culminate at Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in Nugegoda for a rally.

The SLC holds its May Day rally at Hyde Park in Colombo.

In Kandy, the SLFP will hold its May Day event in front of the central market, while the FPA gathers in front of Sahas Uyana for its rally in Kandy.

Police media spokesman Nihal Talduwa requested organizers to assist the police in maintaining law and order and by holding their events on time.
