The UNP will be celebrating the May Day this year on the theme of emerging victorious in 2048 on the basis of the programme for economic growth, said its national organizer Sagala Ratnayaka.

Also the president’s chief-of-staff and senior presidential adviser on national security, he told the media at Sirikotha yesterday (29) that anyone in agreement with such policies could join in the party’s celebrations tomorrow.

At the present rate, an economic growth of between two to three per cent is possible, but what is needed is a growth of between seven or eight pc, he said.

A deal had to be struck with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stabilize the economy, and we have been achieving success through laws to safeguard the banking system and the matter of money printing, said Ratnayake.

According to him, Sri Lanka is a country that can come out on its own, as it has enough resources, especially in tourism.

Also, production and technology could be uplifted, agriculture can be modernized and considerable export growth gained by countries like Singapore and Malaysia, he said.

Furthermore, we have to build confidence internationally as a supply hub for aviation and shipping, for which laws are being formulated.

Ratnayaka invited especially the youths to join in this forward journey of the country.

The UNP May Day conference will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium tomorrow (01) from 9 am onwards.
