An interim order issued by the court of appeal prevents the arrest or interrogation of former attorney general Dappula de Livera by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).

The court yesterday (24) took up a petition filed by de Livera in connection with the summons issued on him for the third time to appear before the TID to record a statement from him.

His lawyer on April 19 submitted a seven-page legal objection to the TID on his behalf.

De Livera has been summoned for questioning with regard to a remark made by him as the AG two years ago that there was a conspiracy behind the Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019.

Making submissions to the court yesterday, his lawyer Romesh de Silva noted the police cannot question any remarks made by an AG or a lawyer.

The court of appeal issued notice on the respondents to appear before the court on May 10.
