Thehas Rithmitha Kiringoda of Ananda College won the Under-9 open championship title at the recently concluded world Schools Chess Championship.

The World Schools Chess Championship 2023 was held from April 14 to 22 at Rhodes, Greece. The tournament was conducted under nine rounds Swiss-system with a time control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment from move one.

In the Under 09 open category, 61 players competed for the championship. Thehas was placed 21 in starting rank list.

With superb performance, Thehas managed to win the championship with 7.5/9 points.

Aisultan Bissaliyev of Kazakhstan and Alimzhan Zhauynbay of Kazakhstan managed to win the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
