The Civil Security Department stands accused of forcible takeover and occupation of a farming land in Mullaitivu.

The 12-acre plot at Udayarkattu South reportedly belongs to four Tamil farmers.

The CSD has been using the land for agricultural purposes despite the return of the owners in 2010 after the end of the war and numerous written claims to the state authorities.

The Tamil farmers say they have deeds for the land which they had been farming since 1976.

A latest request on April 17 by the area’s divisional secretary to the CSD’s commandant at Vallipuram to return the land has been ignored.

After being informed, Tamil MPs G.G. Ponnambalam and Selvaraja Gajendran visited the land three days later.

Ponnambalam said they would grant some time for the CSD to return the land, failing which, appropriate action will be taken together with the people.
