Prof. G.L. Peiris has been invited back to the SLPP to accept its chairmanship again.
He is yet to respond to the invitation, aruna.lk reports.
SLPP general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam has said Prof. Peiris had been removed from the chairmanship, but the latter said he was still to be informed on that.
Meanwhile, MP Ranjith Bandara said the SLPP would function under a new leader after the New Year.
The incumbent is Mahinda Rajapaksa.
