The Supreme Court yesterday (06) issued an order preventing the importation of medicines by two unregistered companies under the Indian credit scheme.

Transparency International – Sri Lanka is the case’s petitioner that seeks a ruling that a cabinet decision to make these purchases were a
violation of fundamental rights.

Granting leave to proceed with the case, a three-member judges panel decided the medicines already imported could be released to the market only if the Medicines Regulatory Authority is satisfied with its quality.

The next hearing of the case has been fixed for October 18.
