A private member’s bill has been gazetted with the aim of decriminalizing homosexuality in Sri Lanka.

MP Premnath C. Dolawatte submitted the bill to parliament that seeks to amend the penal code with the aim of protecting the LGBTQI community.

The penal code criminalizes voluntary “carnal intercourse against the order of nature,” which is used to discriminate against LGBTQI individuals.
